1. Pack all the entertainment for the car journey

The most well-known phrase for every parent is ‘are we there yet?’. Alleviate the back seat boredom and pack all the entertainment for the car journey.

Toys, books, games are all essential for a smooth ride to your family camping trip destination. Not forgetting the car snacks either, they are an essential boredom buster!

2. Arrive before dark (where possible)

We know it’s not always possible to arrive before dark especially as we are governed by holiday traffic, but we highly recommend pitching up as early as you can for check-in. Putting up a tent in darkness is never fun and dusk adds an extra challenge with a race against time.

3. Remember the camping essentials

One of the most important camping essentials is a tent! So, don’t leave without it! Other must-not-forget items include:

  • duvet/sleeping bag
  • plenty of layers (blankets, coats, jumpers – the Great British weather can be unpredictable)
  • food
  • BBQ or firepit
  • cool box

4. Find a good location with plenty of things to do nearby

When researching the perfect campsite find somewhere with lots of things to go and do as well as lots of local places to explore.

Look up the local tourist information centre with a list of tourist attractions, play parks and walks. Make sure there is something to keep everyone entertained, even on a rainy day. With that in mind we’ve created a nifty download – a Sacrewell activity book. It’s sure to keep minds busy for at least 10 minutes!

Have you tried camping on a farm? It provides plenty of entertainment for the children (and adults!). Here at Sacrewell Farm, campers can enjoy discounted admission to the farm.

We also have our own camping play park which is open after hours for campers to enjoy.

5. Stay comfy and cosy

The key to happy adventures are staying comfy and cosy. Whether it’s bringing the camping chairs for an enjoyable afternoon siesta or air beds for a comfy night’s sleep.
