Site Maintenance Officer


Location: Sacrewell, near Peterborough
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full-time or part-time, including weekends and bank holidays
Salary: £24,000 – £27,500 full-time equivalent, depending on experience

Our mission is to provide a safe, accessible, and inspiring space where people of all ages can connect with food, farming, and countryside life.

The Opportunity
We’re looking for a practical and reliable Site Maintenance Officer to join our friendly team. You’ll play a key role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and appearance of our grounds, buildings, and visitor areas – ensuring an exceptional experience for our guests, team, and animals. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working outdoors in all weathers, takes pride in their work, and brings a hands-on, can-do attitude to day-to-day maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities
• Carry out regular maintenance of the grounds, including mowing, strimming, weeding, pruning, and general landscaping
• Maintain and repair footpaths, fences, benches, signage, picnic areas, and playgrounds
• Complete basic building tasks such as painting, pressure washing, and minor repairs
• Support the setup and takedown of seasonal displays and events
• Maintain public areas, including toilets, bins, and seating spaces
• Operate tools and machinery safely and efficiently, ensuring they are well-maintained
• Report damage, hazards, or required repairs to the Site Operations Manager
• Follow all health and safety procedures to ensure the safety of visitors and staff
• Collaborate with other teams when needed, including animal care and visitor services during busy periods

About You
We’re looking for someone who is:
• Comfortable working outdoors year-round and carrying out physical tasks
• Experienced in groundskeeping, landscaping, and maintenance
• Skilled in basic DIY tasks and tool handling
• Proactive and practical with a positive, team-oriented approach
• Able to work independently and manage their own workload
• A holder of a full UK driving licence (preferred)

Desirable (but not essential):
• Experience operating ride-on mowers or telehandlers
• Trade skills such as plumbing, carpentry, or electrics
• Basic health and safety training (e.g., manual handling, COSHH)
• Hold a PA1/PA6 certificate

The salary given is the full-time equivalent salary. The actual salary will be based on the number of working days per week if part-time.

Cook (The Farmhouse Table café )

Location: Sacrewell Ltd / The William Scott Abbott Trust at Sacrewell Peterborough PE8 6HJ

Contract: Temporary, part-time with variable hours worked according to a rota (minimum 3 days, possibly up to 5 days during peak periods)

Duration: 6 months. This is a fixed-term role to support our busiest time of year, with the possibility of staying on longer if there’s an ongoing need

Start date: Immediate

Salary: From £12.90 per hour

Sacrewell is a well-established farm attraction located to the west of Peterborough, welcoming around 85,000 visitors each year. We are part of The William Scott Abbott Trust, an agricultural education charity with over 60 years of history.

We are looking for a Cook to join the team at The Farmhouse Table, our on-site café, where we provide a range of freshly prepared food in a welcoming countryside setting.

About you…

You will have a genuine interest in food and enjoy preparing simple, good-quality dishes in a busy kitchen environment. You’ll be comfortable working as part of a team, take pride in maintaining high standards, and bring a positive, reliable approach to your work.

This is an important role within our friendly and hardworking team, where you’ll contribute to delivering a great experience for our visitors through well-prepared food, a clean and organised kitchen, and a consistent, professional approach.

The purpose of the role:

To deliver great quality food for visitors and locals who visit the café, providing the best service to ensure we create an experience to remember.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Preparation of hot and cold food at pace to set specifications and consistent quality
  • Ensuring the kitchen is well-stocked and replenished as required
  • Providing excellent service to FOH so they can deliver the best experience to our customers
  • Keeping the kitchen clean and tidy
  • Washing up
  • Working closely with other team members to ensure the café and kitchen run smoothly
  • Working at pace to support other team members – flexibility is part of the role!
  • You may occasionally be asked to support other areas of the Trust, and we value a positive, can-do attitude from all our team.

What you’ll need:

Essential:

  • A positive attitude and good cooking skills
  • Previous experience of working in a busy kitchen Environment
  • Awareness of Food Safety and allergen procedures

Desirable (but not essential – we can train the right person):

  • Food Safety Level 2 trained or above
  • Baking skills
