During this session you will have the opportunity to gain practical experience in all things lambing. Guided by animal team, you will help to care for our lambs in their very first hours and days, by taking part in tasks like feeding the lambs, health checking and mucking out. You may even have the chance to witness the live birth of a lamb (if the ewes cooperate)!
Our Hands on Lambing session for teens only will run on Saturday 6th April from 5pm till 9pm. Tickets cost £45 per person.
What is included?
- an opportunity to gain hands on experience with our ewes and lambs
- instruction, advice and answers from our animal team
- handwashing facilities
- tea, coffee or hot chocolate
- admission to the farm for the day for the ticket holder
The session is suitable for those aged 12 to 17 and their accompanying adults. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult who has also purchased a ticket for this session. At Sacrewell, we present a realistic picture of farm life and lambing is a risky process that can sometimes unfortunately lead to the death of a ewe or a lamb. Please make sure all participants are prepared for this. There will be periods of time where participants will need to remain quiet to ensure the animals are not distressed.
This session is not suitable for pregnant women as there is an increased risk of disease associated with lambing.
Our lambs and ewes are kept in unheated outbuildings situated a 300m walk from our main entrance with uneven floors. The sessions will involve standing for long periods of time. Please contact us if you would like to participate in a Hands on Lambing session and have questions about access.
