Lettering
The course covers:
|

Basic
spacing of letters.
-
Design
and carving of either incised or raised letters.
-
This
skill is very useful in a variety of ways. It
is particularly ideal
for the creation of house signs or plaques.

High and Low
Relief
The
course covers the technique of cutting into a flat piece
of wood in order to make the design stand out 'in
relief'. This skill can be adapted for plaques,
pictures and coats of arms. Almost any subject can
be treated in this way; landscapes, animals, humans and
even abstract designs will turn into appealing display
pieces. |

Sculpture Work
The
course covers all aspects of 3D or 'in the round'
work. For instance, students might carve an animal
or bird from a solid block of wood. They will
learn how to find the shape they want, removing wood
using a variety of techniques to achieve it. |

Hall (Highgate Hall). These classes are
on Mondays at Elton and Tuesday and
Wednesday mornings in the workshop at
Sacrewell.
