The Shire Horse Centre

Shire horses are wonderful creatures, here are the Waldurg Shires through the year

Did you know that Shire Horses used to carry Knights into Battle?  Or that a Shire Horse can pull up to twice its own body weight?

In 2007 the National Shire Horse Centre opened at Sacrewell Farm.  Run in partnership with the Shire Horse Society, it aims to increase awareness of this magnificent breed.

There are now 10 Shires based here at Sacrewell Farm where visitors are able to see the day to day activities carried out by this traditionally hard working breed.  In addition they often run special events displaying unique demonstrations.  At weekends the Shire Horse Centre often runs dray rides for the public.

The Shire Horses now parade in many public events including pulling the Lord Mayor's Gold Coach in London (pictured).

They can often be seen at weddings pulling an elegant carriage.

For more information about hiring the carriage for weddings please contact the Shire Horse Centre.
